Design Quest - Periphery

Approached by a private client, I was asked to create a small proof-of-concept game to be used in gathering research for a thesis. The concept revolved around being an intern at a design studio that had to accomplish various tasks much like a roleplaying game. The content and much of the flow of the game was to be provided, but as this individual had little game design or development expertise, it fell to me to manage the expectations of the client from a technical standpoint.

I served as the primary point of contact and deliberation between my team and the client, looking to strike a balance between expectations and reality. For this project I worked as the principal programmer, creating the majority of the game code. I managed 2 other programmers who provided set piece features. I was also fully responsible for the testing and optimisation of the game and undertook additional roles such as material and shader modifications for the provided assets.

The project was successfully delivered to the client and was used as part of the thesis as planned. In addition to the third-person perspective and some roleplaying game mechanics, we integrated cutscenes with voice-acting into the experience as requested by the client.
